Fall pop music concert planned for Sun.

The Southeastern Minnesota Chamber Orchestra will start its 2012-13 season with a pops concert at 7 p.m. Sunday.

The orchestra is made up of musicians from throughout southeastern Minnesota who range in age from high school students to seasoned musicians. Its director is Albert Lean Brock A. Besse.

Sunday’s concert, held at the Albert Lea High School auditorium, will feature music from stage, screen and TV. It will be joined by vocalist Diane Heaney on several pieces including songs from “My Fair Lady,” “Wicked” and others.

The concert, the only one of the season to be held at ALHS, is one for all ages. Tickets are available at the Lighthouse Event Center and First Lutheran Church and are $8 for adults and $6 for seniors; tickets are $10 at the door. There is no cost for students of all ages. Upcoming concerts include one on Dec. 2, when the orchestra will team with the Albert Lea Community Chorus, the First Lutheran Chamber Choir and the First Lutheran Handbell Choir for the Christmas concert “A Classic Christmas.” The concert will include many seasonal favorites and will be a festive start to the holiday season.

Then a classical concert will be Feb. 17. The trained voices of Paul and Kristin Johnson will add a vocal element to the classical presentations. The talented couple were also featured in a previous concert.

The final concert of the year will be April 21. It will be religious in content, and the orchestra will be joined by the Albert Lea Community Chorus and First Lutheran Chamber Choir.
