Cantori to perform SundayPublished 10:04am Thursday, November 15, 2012
The Albert Lea Cantori will present its annual “Singing in the Season” concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea.
The choir will be performing Camille Saint-Saens “Christmas Oratorio” with strings, harp and organ. Featured soloists will be Mary Wayne, Katie Fick, Sherry Seberson, Amalie Niethammer, Christie Ness, Mark Dundas and Stuart Ness. This is one of the most beloved of the romantic Christmas oratorios for soloists and chorus.
Instrumentalists will include Emily Nelson, Kevin Horn, Deborah Cooper, Rachel Christensen, Marilyn Chafee and Deb Stolarcek. “Christmas Glee: Five Jazz Christmas Carols” will also be performed by the choir with jazz solos by Wendy Walker, flute and Sue Radloff, violin.
In celebration of the 40th year of the Cantori, a new choral work was commissioned by the Cantori for this concert. This will be the second choral work the Cantori commissioned this season. “When the Stars of Morning Sang” was written by Robert Tewes, music director at Grace Lutheran Church of Albert Lea.
There will be several other Christmas carols sung by the choir including “He is Born,” “In Dulci Jubilo,” “I Saw Three Ships” and “My Heart Rejoices” featuring members of the Grace Lutheran Handbell Choir. Accompanist for the Cantori is Gail Thurnau on organ and piano. Eileen Nelson Ness is the director.
This concert is free and open to the public. An offering will be taken with proceeds given to the local food shelf.
