Don’t buy pets for presents

With Christmas soon to be here I would just like to ask people not to buy pets as presents. I love animals. Most people do! I think every child should have a pet to love, talk to and hug, but they are not toys. Pets have many special needs, much like that of humans. Animals need food, they need love, veterinarian care and shelter and, most importantly, spay or neutering. Pets can be very expensive. Depending on the type of pet you buy or have, they come with different needs, some not cheap.

So I ask, before you decide to buy your child or loved one a pet, please keep in mind the expense and responsibility of owning a pet. Again, they are not toys; they are living beings that deserve to have all their needs met. If you have the financial means and time, then perhaps check out the Freeborn County Humane Society, they have many pets available for adoption and would love a second chance in a forever home.
