ST. PAUL — A man who witnessed the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, today remembers the raid that drew the U.S. into World War II.

Edwin Nakasone told the Minnesota Historical Society that he was eating breakfast when he saw 15 planes flying in to attack a U.S. barracks on Dec. 7, 1941.

He was 14 years old at the time and living in Oahu, Hawaii. He later served in the U.S. Army as an interpreter in Japan.

Nakasone was slated to speak at an event in St. Paul marking the 71st anniversary of the attack. It’s hosted by the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and the Fort Snelling National Cemetery Memorial Rifle Squad.
