Dorothy Shafer, 94, Rogers

Dorothy M. (Stowell) Shafer, 94, of Rogers, died Jan. 19, 2013, at Bentonville. She was born in Albert Lea on April 28, 1918, to Washburn and Mina Stowell. She attended the University of Minnesota and before her marriage worked for Unistrut Products Co. and The Rotarian Magazine in Chicago. She married Thomas Leonard Shafer on June 16, 1951. In June of 1975, she, her husband, his mother, Hazel Gibbs, and son, Thomas T. Shafer, moved to Rogers from Park Ridge, Ill. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church in Rogers, the Arkansas chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and the Rogers Friends of the Library. She was interested in genealogy and enjoyed writing family history. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers Leland and Warren Stowell.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas T. Shafer of the home and Fred E. Shafer of Mt. Prospect, Ill.; two grandchildren, Krista Dee Evans and Thomas Lee Shafer; two great-grandchildren, Nathan Nicholas Evans and Jo Dee Evans.

Private interment is at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Chicago. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 1908 New Hope Road, Rogers, AR 72758 or your favorite charity.
