Public invited to dress rehearsal

Albert Lea High School’s entry in the South Sub-Sectional One Act Play competition is “The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the Moon Marigolds.” The poignant drama, which was a Pulitzer Prize winning play in 1971, centers around the lives of a mother and her two daughters. One daughter is a gifted science student, while the other suffers from seizures. The mother, Beatrice, struggles to make a living by taking in elderly boarders.

The cast includes Solveig Lange as Beatrice, Julia Otten as Tillie, Emma Behling as Ruth, Isabel Ehrhardt as Janice Vickery and Hanna Kingstrom as Nanny. The cast is supported by Kade Wiemerslage, Lynzee Underdahl, Ben Rindal and Wyatt Manges. John Fure is the set designer/technical director with Lilah Aas as the director. The public is invited to attend an open dress rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. There is no admission charge.

The south sub-sectional competition for Section 1AA will take place at Winona Middle School beginning at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Albert Lea will be performing at 6:15 p.m. Schools competing are Albert Lea, Austin, Kasson-Mantorville and Winona. Two schools will advance to the section finals which will be Jan. 31 at Lakeville South High School.
