“It was a scrimmage for us,” Albert Lea head coach Shawn Riebe said. “It was a good learning experience and the first meet for some girls.”

Freshman Sara Rasmussen earned the top score for the Tigers with a 57. Makenna Friehl, a senior, and Grace Andersen, a freshman, tied for Albert Lea’s second spot one stroke behind Rasmussen.

The Albert Lea varsity girls’ golf team is undefeated in the Big Nine Conference at 6-0. Overall, the Tigers are 9-3.

Riebe said he’s excited for the upcoming three days with no meets that he can spend working with his team on the course because of good weather in the forecast.

“I think this will equal the amount of practice days we have had outside for the season,” he said.

Alden-Conger was led by senior Brenna Van Engelenburg. She completed the course in 52 strokes. Eighth-grader Elynn Johnson shot a 53 to finish second for the Knights.

Next, Albert Lea will put its undefeated conference record on the line at Eastwood Golf Course against Rochester Mayo at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Alden-Conger plays at Northwood Golf Course against Glenville-Emmons at 4 p.m. Tuesday. United South Central plays against Belle Plaine at a time to be determined Monday.
