AUSTIN — A 19-year-old charged in an armed robbery in Austin last fall was sentenced to five years in prison Thursday in Mower County District Court.

Willister Davenport Jr. of Austin was convicted of first-degree aggravated robbery and sentenced to 60 months in prison.

Davenport and a 17-year-old were arrested for robbing other teenagers at gunpoint for a pound of marijuana on Nov. 17, 2012. A woman involved in the case gave the marijuana back to the victim, according to the court complaint, but according to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, officers did not recover any marijuana after the incident.

Police later found a .22-caliber pistol after a person in the case showed them where it was tossed in the Cedar River.

Davenport was sentenced to 90 days in jail and given credit for 60 days served in another case from May 7. Police, who saw Davenport and knew he had outstanding warrants, said Davenport hid in a trunk while another person drove away from the area. Davenport struck a plea deal in that case and was convicted of under-age liquor consumption.

He was also convicted of a misdemeanor for receiving stolen property in 2012.
