Get ready for a bevy of bugs.
The wet spring is expected to produce a good amount of ticks, mosquitoes and ants this spring, according to a Wednesday story in the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Last year’s dry weather reduced the bug population, especially ticks. The long winter and wet, cool spring delayed the coming of these pests, but it also bolstered their populations.
More bugs raises the risk of insect-borne diseases, such as West Nile virus and Lyme disease.
We remind people to make sure they apply insect repellent before spending much time outdoors, and we urge dog owners to get heartworm prevention medicine.
