An Austin teenager was arrested early Sunday morning after he reportedly stole a vehicle towing a boat and then led police on a chase.

The 17-year-old, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody on felony allegations of motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, fleeing police in a motor vehicle and third-degree driving while intoxicated.

Police were alerted to the vehicle theft after receiving a report that a black 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen at 3:12 a.m. Sunday from the driveway of 411 Maurice Ave. The Jeep was towing a boat on a trailer behind it.

After officers were dispatched to the area, they reportedly found the Jeep driving westbound on Fountain Street near Vine Avenue. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the Jeep fled from police at low speeds through the surrounding neighborhood.

The teenager eventually ran from the Jeep on foot after stopping in the parking lot of Lakeview Elementary School.

He was stopped after a short foot chase.
