GRAND MEADOW — A Northwood teenager is safe after a car crash east of here Tuesday, though his passenger sustained an injury that is not life-threatening.

Driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, Bruce L. Kaid, 17, of Northwood, stopped at the intersection of Minnesota Highway 16 and U.S. Highway 63 with Katarina A. Bain, 17, of Spring Valley, as a passenger, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. It said Kaid faced east on Highway 16 and waited to turn north onto 63 when a 2007 Toyota Highlander, driven by 61-year-old Rondal B. Sween of Grand Meadow, traveling east on 16 collided with the Pontiac.

Sween’s sport-utility vehicle was pulling a trailer that struck a 2001 Buick LeSabre driven by 89-year-old Henry Waalkens of Albert Lea, the State Patrol reported.
