Freemond Madson VFW

The Freemond Madson Post 447 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary met March 10 at the American Legion Hall with President Franne Camerer presiding.

The regular business meeting was held with Secretary-Treasurer Lynda Vermadahl reading her reports, which were accepted. She reported the auxiliary had received $50 from the Department VFW Auxiliary for the achievement in membership, although about 10 more are needed to reach last year’s membership.

Betty Jones gave her resignation as trustee, which was accepted. Marcia Peterson was elected to complete Jone’s term.

The new 2014-15 officers will be elected at the April 14 meeting. They will take over their positions after the June 4 to 8 Minnesota Department VFW Convention in St. Cloud.

Eunice Hatleli won the door prize.

The post served lunch. The next regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. April 14 at the American Legion Hall.

 

St. John’s Auxiliary

The St. John’s Auxiliary met at 10:30 a.m. March 17 at the St. John’s chapel. Vice President Jan Jerdee welcomed everyone.

Auxiliary Secretary Bonnie Schneider reported that because of bad weather the February meeting was canceled. She also gave the treasurer’s report. The report was approved.

Volunteer Coordinator Carla Reichel reported that there were 896 volunteer hours in January and 787 hours for February. Day care had 46 hours in January and 53 hours in February, two you & me clubs in January and February, one sing-along in January and two sing-alongs in February.

Activities Director Shirley Leeman gave activities for April: L.A. Sasse on April 1, Accordianese Cletus Goldirsch on April 4, Debbie Nordland Music on April 11, Dunnell Lenort on April 12, Good Friday Easter tea at 2 p.m. on April 18, Easter Sunday on April 20, Auxiliary meeting with music by Orville and Irene Goskeson on April 21 and music by Ralph Campbell on April 25. Game nights will be on Tuesdays.

Jerdee read the names of residents celebrating March birthdays and “Happy Birthday” was sung. Churches thanked for serving Sunday coffee were Grace Lutheran, East Freeborn and Bethlehem Lutheran.

The program was provided by the Young Oldies of Austin. They sang many Irish songs in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

 

United Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women met March 5.

Members of Martha circle served morning coffee, followed by a piano prelude from Merle Stensrud.

Eileen Larson of Just Three circle introduced Rita Bebler of Mankato. Bebler spoke about the Clothes Closet in Wells. It is a non profit business that helps people in need.

President Jerry Horswell opened the business meeting with prayer and the United Methodist Women’s purpose. She thanked Just Three circle for the program and Martha circle for serving.

The secretary’s report and circle attendance was given by JoAnn Seuser and the treasurer’s report by Ruth Vermedahl.

Judy Hargrave, reading program chairwoman, read highlights from the book, “A Hopeful Earth,” by our former bishop, Sally Dyck. She also told of two fundraisers for Emma Norton Services, and read a thank-you from them.

This past month’s sunshine chair, Rose Hood, sent six cards.

Horswell reminded members of the Southern Prairie spring gathering. It will be March 21 at Methodist Church in Trimont. For further information contact Jerry Horswell. Two decorative items crafted from the glass windows in the former Methodist Church were given by the family of Charlotte Sevaldson.

The next meeting will be April 2, with coffeetime at 9:30 a.m. and the program at 10 a.m. Hope circle will serve, and the program will be by Mary Grace circle.
