MINNEAPOLIS — A mudslide on a Mississippi River bluff just below a Minneapolis hospital narrowly missed two motorists on a nearby roadway.

Minneapolis firefighters said no one was injured Thursday night and the hospital on the edge of the mudslide is stable. About 20 people working in the University of Minnesota Medical Center closest to the mudslide were evacuated as a precaution.

A 100-yard swath of bluff soil, including trees and brush, slid to a parkway below, leaving 6 to 8 feet of mud on the road. Reports said pieces of the road also landed in the river.

Deputy Fire Chief Todd White said the area was cordoned off because of the possibility of more erosion. He said the road below is impassable.

The Twin Cities has endured torrential rain and flash flooding this week.
