50 years ago: 1964

• In city slow-pitch games, Scotsman defeated Albert Lea Federal 11-9, Polly Meadows defeated Clarks Grove 6-5 and the Jaycees were victorious over Schmidt’s Sodding 6-5. Harold Rieman and Dude Helgerson each had three hits for Scotsman in its win. Jim Malepsy led Albert Lea Federal with four hits. Polly Meadows was led by Dave Yokiel and Craig Counters with two hits each. Hugh Hall was the winning pitcher for the Jaycees.

• In the amateur State Line League baseball games, Kiester defeated Glenville 27-1 and Hayward won 14-9 over Emmons. Kiester was led by Darrel Meyer with a grand slam. The Hayward offense was led by Ed Stalker and Wayne Wacholz with two-run homers and Gary Skaar with four hits.

25 years ago: 1989

• In the annual Pedro Peterson Memorial Legion Baseball Tournament, Glenville-Emmons defeated Litchfield 3-2 in a first-round game. Winning pitcher Jamie Beck had two hits and drove in two runs. Glenville-Emmons was held to one hit in its 6-2 loss in the championship game to Eagle Lake.

• The Albert Lea Moose Traveling Baseball Team lost all three games at the New Ulm Tournament. Cazzie Wacholz had four hits and four RBIs in Albert Lea’s opening-game loss to Brooklyn Park 17-9. Osseo defeated Albert Lea 13-1 in the second game. Albert Lea was defeated by Apple Valley 11-3 in the third game. Wacholz had three hits and Trent Struck and Matt Trygstad had two hits each for Albert Lea.

10 years ago: 2004

• United South Central shortstop Shannon Schrader, a four-year letter winner, was the Albert Lea Tribune’s All-Area softball Player of the Year.

• Wendy Schultz of NRHEG was the Albert Lea Tribune’s All-Area softball Coach of the Year.

• Named to the Albert Lea Tribune All-Area softball team were Jerri Mondeel and Nicole Rafdal of Albert Lea; Erin Bremseth, Kristin Faugstad and Steph Lackey of Alden-Conger; Erin Anderson, Emily Hagen and Chelsey Quiran of NRHEG; and Sam Ehlert, Shannon Schrader, Andrea Schultz and Kirsten Thisius of United South Central.
