MINNEAPOLIS — More than half of Minnesota residents responding to a new poll say the state’s economy is in better shape than it was four years ago.

Sixty percent of metro area respondents and 55 percent outstate said the economy has improved.

The poll conducted for the Star Tribune shows about the same number of Minnesotans said their personal finances haven’t changed much, while one in four say they have improved since 2010.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics figures show that the annual mean wage in Minnesota was about $47,000 in 2013. That’s down from four years prior when the annual mean salary was nearly $50,000 after adjusting for inflation.

Pollsters interviewed 800 likely general election voters from Sept. 8-10 by land line and cellphones, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
