A Happy Medium by Erin Murtaugh

I attended St. Theodore Catholic School from kindergarten through sixth grade. Every year, we celebrated Catholic Schools Week. This week happens to be that week, so I’d like to wish all of the students and staff of St. Theodore a happy Catholic Schools Week.

Before editor Tim Engstrom left the Tribune, he had mentioned to me that St. Theodore does not have a mascot for the school.

Albert Lea is the Tigers, Hollandale Christian School is the Eagles, St. Casimir’s is the Saints. How fun would it be for St. Theodore to allow their students to come up with a mascot? Maybe it would make a fun contest and election for the best idea.

An idea would be the Bears. Theodore is often shortened to Teddy, so the Teddy Bears may be a mascot that could work. Also, St. Theodore was a big advocate for learning about arts and calligraphy and even started a school on it. Maybe they could be the St. Theodore Scholars.

I think it would be fun to see something like a mascot come to St. Theodore. It wouldn’t have to be used a whole lot, but just having it would up the school spirit when it comes to Catholic Schools week, or events like their annual auction and marathon fundraiser. If this is something the school is interested in doing, I’m excited to see what they come up with.
