ALHS musicians place in statewide contest

Albert Lea High School musicians competed at the Minnesota State High School League Solo and Ensemble Contest Jan. 24 at Lakeville South High School. Students sang and played for judges for a score and rating of either fair, good, excellent or superior based upon their performance.

Students singing solos and earning superior ratings were Zane Aumick, Connor Larson, Bailey Ford, Cheyenne Severtson, Quinn Andersen, Solveig Lange, Lukas Severson, Rika Boorsma, Nikki Bos, Francesca Eckstrom, Alexa Wood, Alexis Tasker, Quinn Petersen, Caleb Troe, Kendra Manges, Savannah Simpson, Matthew Tate, Scott Grzybowski, Ryan Nelson, Bethany Tennis, Carissa Blizzard, Anna Englin, Tristyn Ellingsen, Isabel Ehrhardt, Aaron Zogg, Natalie Weiland and Travis Nemec.

Other superior-rated performances were a duet of Bailey Ford and Savannah Simpson and the chorale.

Soloists with an excellent rating were Emma Tewes, Heather Wirkus, Sandy Balbuena, Kole Smith, Maddie Willey, Riley Schulz, Schafer Overgaard, Sam Ehrhardt, Noah Iverson and Nathan Hensche.

A duet that earned an excellent was Kailey Christensen and Camryn Keyeski, as well as a trio of Natalie Weiland, Liana Schallock and Tristyn Ellingsen.

Good ratings were given to soloists Alissa Mick, Raelin Bijzak, Landon Kirchner and Emily Strom.

Nicole Borneman, flute; Amber Lobb, Bb clarinet; Emma Tewes, oboe; Rika Boorsma, flute; Sarah DeHaan, flute; Anna Englin, alto saxophone; Marcus Enomoto, Bb clarinet; Kayla Overland, trombone; Alana Skarstad, flute; Connor Larson, timpani; and Sam Ware, snare drum, earned superior ratings on their band solos.

Earning excellent ratings were Lucas Collins, trumpet; Maddie Willey, flute; Bethany Tennis, bass clarinet; Taylor Northington, flute; Yuseina Brito-Lino, Bb clarinet; Ehrich Attig, tenor saxophone; Jens Lange, trumpet; Kendra Manges, flute; and Nathan Sullivan, trumpet.

Katie Appel, Bb clarinet; Kenny Fjeldberg, tuba; and Herbie Lein, snare drum,  earned good ratings.

Kayla Overland, Carson McGivern, Amber Lobb, Katie Appel and Emma Stensrud earned superior ratings for various instrumental ensembles.

Earning excellent ensemble ratings were Jarrod Guildner, Janah Walker, Anna Boettcher, Katie Boettcher, Britney Hunt, Emerald Wangen, Marcus Enomoto, Katie Appel, Brianna Opdahl, Hailey Johnson, Amber Lobb, Yuesina Brito-Lino, Andrea Martin, Jenny Paczkowski, Sam Moyer and Sean Brownlow.

Kelieye Corwin, Brook Johnson, Emma Boyenga and Alissa Mick earned good ensemble ratings.

Jens Lange, violin; Solveig Lange, violin; and Savannah Simpson, viola, earned superior ratings on their orchestra solos.

Earning excellent ratings were Mackenzie Anderson, violin; Ali Hagen, violin; Abe Peterson, violin; Emily Wangen, viola; and Ashlee Whebbe, violin.

Earning good ratings were Breanna Himmerich, violin; Noah Iverson, viola; and Kaitlyn Ravlin, violin.

Solveig Lange and Jens Lange earned superior ratings for various instrumental ensembles.

Earning excellent ensemble ratings were Krista Davis, Breanna Himmerich, Hanna Kingstrom and Savannah Simpson.

Earning good ensemble ratings were Abby Govea and Sydney Hagen and Hanna Kingstrom and Krista Davis.
