ST. PAUL — A leader of St. Paul’s Black Lives Matter’s chapter said he’s running for the state Legislature.

Rashad Turner said he will run for a St. Paul seat in 2016. He would challenge current Rep. Rena Moran, a Democrat who is one of three current black lawmakers in Minnesota.

Turner has been involved in high-profile Black Lives Matters protests including at the Twin Cities Marathon and Minnesota State Fair. He said he’d focus on employment, education and housing in the Legislature. He previously ran an unsuccessful write-in campaign for the St. Paul school board.

Moran said she plans to run for a fourth term 2016.

Turner was planning a Saturday campaign kick-off event.
