SANDSTONE — The Wildcat Sanctuary in central Minnesota is asking the public for help in naming two orphaned cougar kittens.

According to a press release, the male and female cougar were found last week in Washington state and brought within the past week to the facility in Sandstone. Officials believe the mother was killed, leaving the kittens to fend for themselves.

The female cougar has shown signs of a hip injury, but she seems to be recovering at the sanctuary.

The public is invited to vote for their favorite pair of names on the facility’s website. Several holiday-themed names are in the running, including Dasher and Dancer, Candy and Cane, and Nicholas and Noel.

The Wildcat Sanctuary has raised four other wild-born cougars who were orphaned as kittens.
