The National Parkinson Foundation Minnesota is hosting a conference on Parkinson’s disease on Wednesday, March 9, at America’s Best Value Inn. It is titled “Believe in Better,” and it will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m. There is no admission charge. Speakers are both from the University of Minnesota and are Colum MacKinnon, Ph.D, who will speak on research and looking for the cure, and Maria Servioli, a medical fellow in neurology at the University of Minnesota, who will present on Parkinson’s disease education regarding medication, treatments and resources. Reservations are required by March 2. You may go online to nationalparkinsonfoudationmn.org/event or you may call 763-545-1272.  Please mention the name of the event and the date, and give your first and last name.  I would also be willing to assist with reservations, and you may call me at 874-3367.

Nearly one million Americans live with Parkinson’s disease. Several live right here in your community. As some of you may know, my husband, Ray, lived with Parkinson’s for 25 years. He is gone now, but my determination to educate and support those who are still struggling continues. I continue to hope for a cure. The Southern Minnesota Parkinson’s Support Group meets at 9:30 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Albert Lea Senior Center. Coffee and rolls are served. We strive to present educational and motivational programs, along with support, for those suffering from Parkinson’s and their caregivers. We welcome any interested people to attend. For more information you may contact me at 874-3367.
