The welfare system has been a trap

America’s romance with the Democrat’s liberal progressive philosophy began in the 1930s with the election of Franklin Roosevelt. This was the birth of the welfare state. Lyndon Johnson’s war on poverty greatly increased  the government’s commitment to a growing role in welfare.

Since the early 1960s trillions of dollars have been spent trying eliminate poverty in America. Yet there are more people in poverty today than at any time in history.

Many of America’s largest cities, Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and many others have been governed by liberal Democrats for over 50 years. The poorest and most violent cities have a long history of political control by Democrats.

The poor blacks living in the centers of these cities are locked in a permanent cycle of poverty by the very political class who promises to take care of them. By their very essence welfare programs are designed to keep the poor subservient to the programs designed to help them.

What those in poverty do not realize is that it was the Democratic Party that fought tooth and nail to retain segregation in the ’50s. The Democratic Party is not a friend of the poor.

Intercity schools have failed miserably. There are few jobs to be had for young people. If you are young and black living in the inner city there are few options available.

For most girls, getting pregnant and living their lives as single mothers on welfare is often considered their best option. Need more money, have another child.

Many of the boys are almost illiterate, have no working father to set an example, are in even worse shape, and often their only viable option is to join a gang and sell drugs.  The future of a very large portion of these black boys will be death in the streets or non ending cycle of prison terms.

Drugs are a way of life in the inner cities, providing a source of income and way to erase to pain of being poor.

Black youth in inner cities and prisons are prime recruits for radical Islam.

Welfare programs have failed the citizens they were developed to help. The liberal progressive class has preyed on the poor for generations, promising more programs, money and support. The poor in these cities do not understand they are being held captive, almost like slaves. Yet they blindly vote for the people oppressing them, election after election.

The unions, EPA, OSHA and local, state and federal taxing authorities have made so many demands on job providers, that most business have fled to  other states or countries with cheaper labor, fewer taxes and regulations.

The middle class left for the suburbs. Wealthy landlords may own property in these blighted areas, but generally do little to maintain it. Making their profits off subsidized rental payments provided by state and federal governments, waiting for the day when a federal program will buy their properties at massive profits, building yet another rental high-rise for the poor.
