Freeborn County burning ban to continue through Saturday evening

Freeborn County is under a red flag warning for burning.

According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, high temperatures, low humidity and wind are expected for the county today and tomorrow.

A burning ban is in place now and will remain in effect through Saturday evening. The ban will affect fires that are larger than a campfire — about a 3-foot diameter base — where you would be required to call county dispatchers to give notice of intent to have a larger fire.

If people have a small recreational fire, they are asked to stay with the fire for the duration. Have a rake and garden hose nearby just in case it starts to spread. Soak the embers with plenty of water before leaving or bury it with dirt. Many fires start days after the homeowner thinks the fire has been out.
