50 years ago: 1966

In their opening baseball game in the Gopher Conference, Ellendale High School defeated Medford 7-2 behind a home run and two-hit pitching by winning pitcher Daryl Paulson.

Freeborn High School defeated Alden 4-3 in a Border League baseball game. John Miller pitched the win for the Yeomen.

Dick Wayne pitched a no-hitter for the Albert Lea High School baseball team in its 2-0 win over Blue Earth. Leading the Tigers offense were Byron Nelson, Rick Swanson and Chuck Slette.

 

25 years ago: 1991 

In a triangular track and field meet, the ALHS girls team scored 63 points, Mankato West 55 and Rochester John Marshall 48. Winners for the Tigers were Amy Jensen in the discus and shot put, Mollee Ludtke in the 400 meter dash, Jodi Bumpus in the high jump and Carla Zevenbergen in the 200 meter dash. The 4×200 relay team of Kristen Nowak, Julie VanderPloeg, Michelle Sayre and Ludtke and the 4×800 team of Amy Stay, Lachelle Zeman, Jessica Polley and Krist Edwin also placed first for the Tigers.

Inducted into the Freeborn County Softball Hall of Fame were Eugene (Murph) Berg, Merton “Pete” Head, Larry Petersen, Harold “Hal” Wayne and LuVerne “Swede” Wayne.

The Glenville-Emmons girls softball team raised their Gopher Conference record to 2-2 after defeating New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 17-9. Colleen Kral was the winning pitcher and Stacia Schroeder homered for the Wolverines.

The ALHS girls golf team shot 189 to defeat Owatonna 192 and Austin 214 in a triangular meet. Scores for the Tigers were Leah Mattson (45), Lisa Christopherson (47), Traci Emerson (47) and Pam Stoltz (50).

 

10 years ago: 2006

Softball games in the NRHEG Tournament included the following: Albert Lea defeated Waldorf-Elysian-Morristown 9-4 with Dezeray Jacobs pitching the win; St. Clair defeated ALHS 3-2 with Jacobs taking the loss; and ALHS defeated NRHEG 7-2 with Jacobs the winning pitcher and Missy Webb, Liz Thompson and Vieze  all going 3 for 4. NRHEG defeated G-E 3-1. Jordan Claussen had three hits for the Wolverines, and G-E defeated Bethlehem Academy 10-0 with Jordan Claussen throwing a no-hitter.
