In many churches the Blessing of the Animals is a treasured moment in the liturgical year. When people bring their pets to be blessed, the church has an opportunity to affirm the richness of the connection between pets and their owners.

2. “Tristan und Isolde”

The Met: Live in HD’s fifth season will kick off at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center with a new production of Richard Wagner’s opera titled “Tristan und Isolde.”

Conducted by Sir Simon Rattle in his first Live in HD performance, the production stars Nina Stemme as Isolde. Tristan will be performed by Australian heldentenor Stuart Skelton. Others in the cast include acclaimed singers Ekaterina Gubanova, Evgeny Nikitin and Rene Pape.

The three acts of the opera are originally set aboard a ship on the Irish Sea. The opera pays homage to the Celtic ambience and the themes associated with ancient Celtic culture of mysticism, knowledge of the magic arts, an evolved warrior code and a non-Christian vision of the possibilities of the afterlife, the release stated.

Albert Lea Civic Music and Albert Lea Community Theatre have partnered since 2012 to bring the Metropolitan Opera’s series of award-winning, high-definition live transmissions to Albert Lea.

The opera is slated to begin at 11 a.m., with a Meet the Met opera talk to begin at 10:30 a.m.

3. Marvelous Moms Fellowship
