The Tigers, who opened the season with three consecutive losses, won for the second time in three games Monday with a 1-0 shutout in a rescheduled game at Owatonna.

The only goal of the night came five minutes into the first half, when Brooke Plantage scored from about 10 yards out after taking a long crossing pass from Amy Ravenhorst.

According to coach Dawn Conzemius, the Tigers played some of their best soccer of the season in the first half.

&uot;Our play was tremendous in the first half,&uot; said Conzemius. &uot;The girls were really connecting. Things that we’ve been working on practice I got to see tonight.&uot;

The score could have been more one-sided if not for Owatonna’s goalie, according to Conzemius.

&uot;We took a lot of quick shots and she picked them up,&uot; said the coach. &uot;We had many more opportunities than goals.&uot;

The Tigers outshot the Huskies 29-14.

Playing well for Albert Lea, according to Conzemius, were goalie Jenny Elseth, defender Stacy Vanderploeg and midfielder Kim DeYoung.

The Albert Lea junior varsity won 2-0.

The Tigers, 2-3 in the Big Nine and 2-4 overall, host Winona tonight at Hammer Field. The JV is set for 5 p.m., the varsity for 7. The team travels to Mankato West Thursday for games scheduled for 4:30 and 6 p.m.
