The Tigers showed improvement against nonconference opponent Waseca while falling 5-2 at Southwest Junior High School Monday.

&uot;We played much better than we did last year against Waseca,&uot; said ALHS coach Jody Young. &uot;We were very competitive. I’m very pleased with that.&uot;

The Tigers picked up a win at No. 3 singles, where Emily Ulve rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory.

The other win was by the No. 3 doubles team of Stacy Krueger and Nicki Thompson, who prevailed in a third-set tiebreaker.

The Tigers were very close in the other doubles matches. Holly Matson and Siri Zimmerman fell 7-6, 6-4 at No. 1 while Sara Schewe and Kirsten Nelson lost 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2.

In the other singles matches, Sarah Kammerer lost 6-2, 6-4; Afton Delger was defeated 6-2, 6-0 and Mandy Blenka fell 6-2, 6-2.

&uot;We had a rain delay, and the girls came back and played very strong,&uot; said Young, whose team fell to 1-3 overall.

The Tigers, 1-2 in conference play, return to Big Nine action today with a 4:30 meet against Rochester Century at the Southwest courts.
