Could the Tigers make it two in a row?

The answer: Not against Austin.

The Packers proved too strong Thursday while defeating the Tigers 98-83 in the ALHS pool. Leading 98-58 after 10 events, Austin did not count its points in the final two races.

&uot;Austin’s a real powerful team with depth and quality,&uot; said ALHS coach Jon Schmitz. &uot;We got our firsts.&uot;

Those came in diving, the 100-yard freestyle, 500 freestyle and 100 back stroke.

The most impressive was by diver Amber Paulson Jordahl, who won with yet another career best of 205.3 points.

Naomi Gregerson was first in the 100 freestyle in 56.63 seconds. Kristen Rietsema picked up her first win of the season in the 500 freestyle, clocking 6:09.5. Laura Grund took the 100 back stroke in 1:08.98.

Other Albert Lea places: Chelsea Cole, fourth, 200 free, 2:17,83 and fourth, 100 butterfly, 1:15.15; Rietsema, fifth, 200 free, 2:18.56; Gregerson, second, 200 IM, 2;22.67; Amy Leach, fifth, 200 IM, 2:47.7; Grund, second, 50 free, 26.82; Brooke Kaasa, fifth, 50 free, 28.98 and fifth, 100 free, 1:03.73; Kassi Gaul, third, diving, 124.5; Megan Austin, fifth, 100 butterfly, 1:21.71; Laura Linnes, third, 500 free, 6:19.63; Rachel Nelson, third, 100 back, 1:14.47; Nicole Paulson, fourth, 100 breast, 1:23.36; Jennifer Osmundson, fifth, 100 breast, 1:24.09.

The Tigers are off until next Thursday when they travel to Winona.
