The Lake Restoration Committee has done its job well. For the first time, a comprehensive, carefully researched recommendation for improving Albert Lea Lake is on the table.

Now is the time to carefully consider the committee’s recommendation, and look ahead to the process to come.

The public’s role in all of this has yet to be defined, but should be significant. Yet, while the committee will work to inform the public about the recommendation, or &uot;vision,&uot; it cannot do so alone. We must all choose to read and listen about the proposal in coming weeks, to understand it, and then make informed comments.

That the state will include public comment during its consideration of a Watershed District board of managers to oversee lake improvement makes public education and deliberation even more critical.

By gaining an understanding of the recommendation, we can carry the committee’s work to the next level by achieving lake improvement that is optimum for this community.
