Dedication of the home at 1212 Johnson Street left homeowner Cindie Carlson thankful.

&uot;I want to thank everyone involved in this,&uot; Carlson told a large group of Habitat supporters. &uot;This is just amazing.

&uot;This has been an incredible project and an incredible blessing for us. I’m hoping the next family will be as happy with their home as we will be with ours,&uot; she said.

Wayne Hanson of Freeborn/Mower Habitat Affiliate thanked everyone who contributed to making the home a reality.

&uot;It’s amazing to me to see how things come together in the end,&uot; he said. &uot;Some people ask me, ‘Why do we do this?’ I believe God does not want us to be stingy with our time and talents.&uot;

Hanson said Habitat plans an 11th house in Albert Lea at 1015 Abbott St., with construction planned for April.

Sunday’s dedication included Invocation, dedication and Benediction by Pastor Don Rose of First Lutheran Church, and prayer for the family and presentation of keys by Jake Loper, Christ Episcopal Church.

Hanson also thanked volunteers who helped the Carlsons make the home a reality, and local businesses that provided donations and discounts, including: Sorensen Bros Construction; Christensen Plumbing and Heating; Farmland Electric; Freeborn Lumber; Ulland Bros; Coast to Coast Store; Fleet Farm Supply; Delmer Boyken Sodding; Western Rental; Floorcrafters; Trading Post; Art Flatum – Bobcat; EZ Rental; and Reimer Contracting.

With Habitat homes, owners are required to complete at least 250 hours of construction; in this case, the Carlson family exceeded that number, Hanson said.

And, while Habitat for Humanity holds the mortgages, the homeowner must make the payments on their new homes.
