Dec. 2-9 is the United Way of Freeborn County’s Week of Thanks, said Marge Hamersly, executive director.

&uot; The philosophy is the people the money was raised for are using the week to say thank you to companies who excelled in their United Way drives,&uot; Hamersly said.

Hamersly said she and Campaign Chairwoman Jean Eaton attended a national meeting, and this was one of the ideas Eaton brought back to use in the local campaign.

On Thursday and Friday of this week, United Way agencies are delivering banners, made by the agencies, to the top 25 companies.

The top 25 small business people are receiving delivery of cookies. The dough was donated by Aspen Hills and the cookies baked by Cedar Valley Services.

On Monday, agencies will hand out bags of popcorn as people enter both Rainbow Foods and Hy-Vee. The popcorn machines and popcorn were donated by E-Z Rental and Western Rentals, the director said.

And on the last day of the Week of Thanks, Thursday, Dec. 9, there will be a celebration from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Riverland Community College. There will be food, recognition and music. Eaton will announce then what the drive has achieved, Hamersly said.
