The game itself was much different.

The Tigers, who lost 6-3 to Faribault at the City Arena in December, dominated much of the rematch Thursday night but lost 4-1 in a Big Nine contest at Faribault.

The Tigers kept Falcons goalie Cody Williams plenty busy, but the senior was more than up to the task. In the early going, he had to be.

As has been their trademark, the Tigers were tough in the early going and kept the puck in the Falcons zone for about the first five minutes of play. The Tigers either just missed – Wade Westland hit the post with one shot – or Williams was there for the save.

The Falcons’ first shot on goal resulted in the game’s first goal as they scored on a breakaway at the 6:22 mark.

The Tigers continued to apply pressure on Williams and the Falcons and it finally paid off at 12:43, when Josh Seeger knocked in a slap shot to tie it. Dusty Wangen and Scott Madrigal assisted.

The Tigers had to settle for a 1-1 tie despite outshooting the Falcons 8-3 in the first period.

Faribault drew the first penalty of the game midway through the second period but the Tigers could not capitalize. The Falcons’ first power play resulted in a goal at 11:05.

The Falcons got another power play early in the third period and again cashed in.

With the Tigers forced to take some chances on offense, the Falcons picked off a pass and scored with 3:10 left in regulation. They added an empty-net goal with 13 seconds remaining.

The loss was the second in a row after two straight wins for the Tigers, who fell to 3-6 in the Big Nine and 3-9 overall. They’re home Tuesday to take on Owatonna in a 7:30 p.m. game at the City Arena.
