ALHS girls take the title at NRHEG

NEW RICHLAND – A day earlier, members of the Albert Lea High School girls’ track and field team were practicing relay handoffs in the halls and jumping events in the gym.

On Tuesday, they were celebrating in the winner’s circle.

The Tigers topped the nine-team field at the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Invitational, finishing first in seven events.

&uot;With as little time as we’ve had to practice outside, the girls performed outstanding,&uot; said ALHS coach Margo Wayne.

The ALHS girls won with 187 points, followed by NRHEG with 153.5, St. Clair 80, Medford 38, Glenville-Emmons 29, Maple River 27.5, Alden-Conger 14, Minnesota Academy for the Deaf 12 and Lyle/Austin Pacelli 11.

The Tigers won all four relays.

Angie Olsen, Amy Ravenhorst, Jasey Porter and Beth Kolling combined for first in the 4×100. Olsen, Sara Kammerer, Heather Heijerman and Steph Overgaard won the 4×200. Heijerman, Kammerer, Anne Larson and Angie Schumacher took the 4×400. Karissa Ladlie, Tiffany Truesdell, Jane Skrlin and Schumacher teamed in the 4×800.

Albert Lea had three individual firsts, by Schuhmacher in the 800, Skrlin in the 3200 and Larson in the long jump.

Other Albert Lea places: Sarah Frydenlund, second, 100 hurdles; Kolling, second, 100 and high jump; Truesdell, second, 1600; Overgaard, second, long jump, third, 100 hurdles and third, 300 hurdles; Ashley Olson, second, triple jump and sixth, 100 hurdles; Ravenhorst, third, 100, third, 200

and third, high jump; Ladlie, third, 1600; Heijerman, third, 400; Larson, third, 800 and third, high jump; Ellen Vandersyde, third, 3200; Laura Grund, fourth, discus; Kelly Cook, fifth, 1600; Porter, fifth, long jump; Kammerer, sixth, 400; Chelsea Olschefske, sixth, discus.
