The event funds scholarships for the Albert Lea Riverland Community College Campus. There are few more noble causes than helping deserving students pay for education, so the event deserves all the support the community can give it.

The price is more than you’d pay for your average Saturday night entertainment, but consider what you get: A meal with menu items like chef-carved pork loin rubbed with fresh herbs and stuffed with fruit. It’s a culinary experience seldom had this side of the Twin Cities. And the music, provided by the Gate City Jazz Band, should be a treat. Planners have again taken care to make the event memorable and worthwhile.

Supporting Riverland’s Albert Lea campus is of an importance that’s hard to overstate. It’s Freeborn County’s main provider of higher education. Its involvement in industrial training is vital. And students who want to attend may face challenges in paying for it. The foundation’s work, partly supported by the gala, is important.

It’s our hope that area residents will respond and make this year’s gala another success.

The gala will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Albert Lea Armory, and advance tickets are still available until noon Friday.
