Milt Peterson, left, and Jay Schulte measure a felled pine tree in Vic and Kay Gilbertson’s Albert Lea yard while Cory Peterson and Vic Gilbertson, right, look on. The tree, which was approximately 65 years old judging from the rings, was 66 feet tall. The Gilbertsons said the tree had been struck by lightning a few times and was dying, so they needed to get rid of it, although they really did not want to.
