ALHS girls make strides at Big 9 meet

ROCHESTER – According to coach Margo Wayne, members of the Albert Lea High School girls’ track and field team did not show a little improvement at the Big Nine meet.

ROCHESTER – According to coach Margo Wayne, members of the Albert Lea High School girls’ track and field team did not show a little improvement at the Big Nine meet.

They showed a lot.

&uot;Just about everyone – if not everyone – had their best time of the season,&uot; said Wayne. &uot;And not just by a little, by a lot. Everyone went out and competed real hard.&uot;

The Tigers finished seventh.

Rochester Century was first with 260.3 points, with Owatonna second at 253. Following were Mankato East at 156, Faribault 140, Rochester John Marshall 137.3, Albert Lea 126, Mankato West 123.3, Austin 68 and Rochester Mayo 44.

Emily Bartusek was the Tigers’ leading scorer, taking first in the 400 and 200 meters and third in the triple jump.

Anne Larson was second in the high jump while Beth Kolling tied for fourth. Amy Ravenhorst was eighth.

Steph Overgaard placed in two events, taking sixth in the 100 hurdles and seventh in the long jump.

Katie Stenseth was fifth in the 1600, Angie Schuhmacher ninth in the 800.

The Tigers’ best relay was the 4×200, where they were third. They took fifth in the 4×100, eighth in the 4×800 and ninth in the 4×400.

The Tigers compete in the Section 1AA meet Thursday and Saturday at Carleton College in Northfield.
