After struggling with consistency in recent games, the Albert Lea Tigers were badly in need of some momentum heading into the Section 1AA Baseball Tournament.

They got it.

The Tigers trounced Faribault in a Big Nine doubleheader at Hayek Field Monday, 10-0 and 14-6.

&uot;It’s a good shot in the arm heading into the playoffs,&uot; said Tigers coach Joe Sczublewski, whose team opens section play Thursday.

Monday’s opener was the Tigers’ most dominating performance of the year. They outhit the Falcons 16-2 and played errorless defense while turning three double plays. Isaiah Parry pitched a complete game, striking out six.

Phil Wacholz was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Adam Highum 3-for-4 with two RBIs. David Dahl went 3-for-4, Alan Attig 2-for-3, Isaac Walton 2-for-4. Parry had a solo home run. Andy Drenth hit a two run double. Travis Miller singled.

The Tigers rallied in game two, overcoming a 6-2 deficit after four innings.

Walton was 3-for-5, Parry 2-for-2 with three RBIs. One hit apiece went to Dahl, Highum, Wacholz, Drenth, Attig, Kyle Schrad and Matt Bracker.

Dahl pitched three solid innings of relief for the victory. He did not allow a run, striking out seven and walking two. Adam Hamberg started on the mound and went four innings.

The Tigers finished the regular season 7-10 in the Big Nine and 8-11 overall. Faribault dropped to 8-12 for the season.

The Tigers find out today who and where they’ll play in the opening round of the double-elimination section tournament.
