LAKE MILLS, Iowa – It was almost a clean sweep for the Lake Mills Bulldogs.

Only a playoff prevented it.

The Lake Mills girls won the championship while the boys finished second to Garner-Hayfield in the North Iowa Conference tournament at Lake Mills Golf and Country Club Monday.

In the girls’ division, the Bulldogs outdueled Forest City for the title, totaling 393 strokes to the Indians’ 397. Belmond-Klemme was third with 411, followed by Belmond-Klemme at 422, Northwood-Kensett 449, Osage 469, West Hancock 471 and North Iowa 557.

Jessica Grotewold led Lake Mills, finishing second overall with an 89. Kelsey McGrady shot 95 and Jessica Ball 99 to join Grotewold on the all-conference team. Also scoring for the Bulldogs was Ashley Pederson, 110.

Hailee Rustad earned all-conference honors for Northwood-Kensett, leading the Vikings with a 104. Following were Mary Bloomingdale, 106; Kyle Hagen, 114; and Shana Mathahs, 125.

Garner-Hayfield took the boys’ title in a three-hole playoff over Lake Mills as both teams had 328 strokes after 18. Forest City was third at 331, followed by Belmond-Klemme 338, Osage 346, Northwood-Kensett 363, West Hancock 390 and North Iowa 396.

Josh Haugo and Derek Richards tied for third overall for the boys, shooting 80. Loren Sherman shot 83 and Chris Helgeson 85 to round out the Lake Mills scoring.

For Northwood-Kensett, Lee Nelson led with an 88. Brandon Weisert shot 89, Mitch Hanson 93, Joey Bedford 93.
