WELLS – The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva girls’ track and field team found the perfect way to celebrate a fourth consecutive Gopher Conference championship: winning another sub-section crown.

WELLS – The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva girls’ track and field team found the perfect way to celebrate a fourth consecutive Gopher Conference championship: winning another sub-section crown.

The Panthers took the Sub-Section 5A title for the fourth year in a row, topping the eight-team field at Wells Thursday with 143 points. Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton was second with 105, United South Central third at 103.

&uot;We’re proud to stay on top,&uot; said NRHEG co-coach Duey Ferber.

Kalisha Anthony, one of 13 Panthers qualifying for section in 12 events, continued to stay on top in the pole vault. She broke her own school record again in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet for first place.

&uot;Kalisha had a great meet,&uot; said Ferber. &uot;She stands a great chance to move on to the state meet.&uot;

The Panthers had two other firsts, by Kelsie Hansen in the high jump and the 4×200-meter relay team of Emily Kofstad, Anthony, Ellen Johnson and Alison Anderson.

Two other relays placed second to advance to section, the 4×800 team of Jessica Brouwers, April Bayerkohler, Melissa Maurer and Michel Maurer, and the 4×100 crew of Kofstad, Anthony, Johnson and Michelle Dobberstein.

Camille Kyte advanced in two events, taking second in the 100 and 200. Nicole Lonning was second in the shot put and third in the discus, Jenifer Brouwers second in the discus and fourth in the shot put.

Other section qualifiers: Anthony, second, 100 hurdles; Michel Maurer, second, 800; Anderson, third, 200; Kofstad, fourth, long jump and fourth, 100; Hansen, fourth, 100 hurdles and fourth, 300 hurdles.

The section meet is Saturday at Mankato West High School.
