The Albert Lea Tigers showed us what we already knew.
When they play their best baseball, they can beat just about anybody. Or they can let it slip away with an error or two.
The latter happened Friday. The Tigers were swept 5-4 and 7-2 by No. 5 rated Rochester Century in a doubleheader at Hayek Field.
&uot;We showed we can compete with them,&uot; said coach Joe Sczublewski. &uot;We’ve just got to get a few breaks is all.&uot;
Isaiah Parry led the Tigers in the opener, going 2-for-2 with a home run. Isaac Walton was 2-for-4. David Dahl, Andy Drenth, Adam Hanson and Adam Hamberg had one hit apiece. Walton pitched a complete game, striking out nine while walking one. Drenth made two outstanding defensive plays at third base.
Matt Bracker, Kyle Schrad, Walton and Parry had hits in game two. Hamberg pitched the first five innings and took the loss. Dahl threw two innings in relief.
The Tigers, 6-11 overall and 5-10 in the Big Nine, finish the regular season Monday with a rescheduled doubleheader against Faribault at Hayek Field. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m.
