FARIBAULT – The injuries that so much concerned coach Margo Wayne are becoming more of an afterthought all the time for the Albert Lea girls’ track and field team.

The Tigers had their best showing of the season Tuesday, taking second in a four-team Big Nine meet at Faribault. Rochester Century won with 84 points. The Tigers had 68, Faribault 62.5, Austin 57.5.

&uot;It was by far the best meet we’ve put together all year,&uot; said Wayne. &uot;The girls really rose to the occasion and I think reached a new level of competition tonight.&uot;

The Tigers won six events, including two relays.

Steph Overgaard, Sara Kammerer, Heather Heijerman and Beth Kolling combined for first in the 4×200-meter relay while Amy Ravenhorst, Heijerman, Kolling and Emily Bartusek took the 4×400.

Individual firsts were by Bartusek, 400; Angie Schuhmacher, 800; Ashley Olson, triple jump; and Anne Larson, high jump. Bartusek was second in the 200.

Angie Olsen, Brianna Millhouse, Jasey Porter and Kolling took third in the 4×100 relay. Karissa Ladlie, Katie Stenseth, Jane Skrlin and Schumacher were third in the 4×800.

Other Albert Lea places: Ravenhorst, fifth, 100, fourth, 200 and third, high jump; Overgaard, fourth, 100 hurdles, fourth, 300 hurdles and third, long jump; Kammerer, fifth, 400; Stenseth, fourth, 1600; Tiffany Truesdell, fifth, 1600; Skrlin, fourth, 3200.

&uot;We’re really looking good going into True Team,&uot; said Wayne, whose Tigers return to Faribault Friday for the Section True Team Meet. The first-place team advances to state.
