MINNESOTA LAKE – Two of them were close, but the Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team dropped two of three games in the Minnesota Lake Invitational last weekend.
After opening with a 9-3 loss to LeSueur on Saturday, Glenville-Emmons played a pair of one-run games on Sunday, falling 2-1 to the host team but bouncing back to beat the Mapleton VFW 6-5.
Mitch Meier was the leader in the opener, going 3-for-4. Chase Rayman was 2-for-4. Rich Mathis, Matt Learn, Jay Wadding and Dustin Peterson each had one hit. Meier pitched the first 4 2/3 innings and took the loss; Wadding went the final 1 1/3 inning.
Learn doubled for the only hit against Minnesota Lake. Mathis did not allow an earned run in seven innings, striking out five and walking two; he gave up five hits.
Glenville-Emmons was outhit 6-4 by Mapleton but took advantage of four errors. Rayman, Mathis, Wadding and Learn had one hit apiece. Learn scattered six hits over seven innings; he struck out eight and walked seven.
Glenville-Emmons, 2-4, travels to Blooming Prairie today for a 6 p.m. game.
