&uot;Some of our guys were right in there,&uot; said coach Howie Melom. &uot;We just weren’t quite close enough to make the finals.&uot;

Senior Nick Cunningham, whom Melom called the Tigers’ best bet for a finalist in a running event, finished third in his heat of the 110-meter high hurdles.

&uot;They took the four heat winners and the next four fastest times (to the finals),&uot; said Melom.

Josh More, one of the Tigers’ promising young sprinters, ran well in the 100 meters but did not make the finals.

Taylor Zimmerman, a freshman, cut 30 seconds off his previous best in the 3200.

The Tigers still have more than one state hopeful in Cunningham and Ladwig, who have finished 1-2 in the high jump in almost every meet this spring.

Saturday’s action begins at 10:45 a.m. with the girls’ triple jump and pole vault and boys’ discus and high jump. The girls’ shot put and boys’ triple jump are at 1 p.m. Finals in the running events start at 1 p.m., with the last event set for 4:10.
