The Minnesota Construction Association (MCA) named the school the Project of the Year, saying it was an excellent example of teamwork and community input.

&uot;It’s certainly a building that’s worthy of recognition,&uot; said project manager Jonathan Crump of the DLR Group in Minneapolis. &uot;If anything about this unique building should be highlighted, it’s the way the community helped with the planning and design. It’s a building that’s very representative of the whole community.&uot;

The MCA vaward recognizes the efforts of the DLR Group as well as Amcon Construction, the company that managed the construction of the $28 million school.

Crump has been designing schools for 15 years, including the new Bemidji High School and the Austin High School addition. He’s currently working on two projects in Worthington including a new elementary school. He said he’s particularly proud of his involvement with the ALHS project.

&uot;We’re very pleased and fortunate to have worked on a project in such a supportive community,&uot; he said. &uot;It’s a building that’s a credit to education in Minnesota and Albert Lea.&uot;

The school was recently featured in &uot;Minnesota Architecture Magazine.&uot; Another article and photo package will appear soon in &uot;American School and University Magazine,&uot; Crump said.
