WINONA – The Albert Lea High School volleyball team got back on the winning track with a long road trip to Winona Thursday night, defeating the Winhawks 16-14, 15-7, 15-13.

&uot;It was nice to see the girls get another win,&uot; said coach Gina Eppen. &uot;We’ve been struggling a little bit. It was nice to see us play like a team again. Hopefully, we can finish the season strong.&uot;

The Tigers started slowly, according to Eppen, picking up momentum as the match went on. They were 69-for-80 from the service line.

Albert Lea’s leaders: Beth Kolling, nine assists, 14 digs, six kills, one block; Ashley Rankin, 14 assists, 10 digs, two kills, one ace; Aubree Page, two assists, 12 digs, five kills, four blocks; Whitney Sorensen, eight digs, six kills, one block; Jenny Vanderploeg, 28 digs, nine kills, two aces; Amie Hartman, 23 digs, one kill, one block; Amanda Arendt, two assists, seven digs, two blocks; Amie Attig, eight digs; Rachel Chapek, four digs.

The Tigers, 2-6 in the Big Nine and 8-12 overall, play Tuesday at Rochester Century.
