Caron was charged with first degree and second degree assaults. The County Attorney’s Office is also considering an attempted murder charge.

The victim, Annette Marie Lestrud, was stabbed while she was sleeping in the living room of her apartment at 210 Front St.

According to the complaint, Caron started cutting Lestrud while she was asleep in the sofa. A report from the hospital indicates that Lestrud required 530 stitches to close the multiple wounds from the stabbing and slashing. One stab wound entered her chest and exited her back.

The BCA will conclude its investigation on the police shooting within a couple of days, according to the ALPD.

The bureau conducted a reenactment of the shooting Monday with the assistance of the two officers involved.

County Attorney Craig Nelson said, “Judging from everything I have heard so far, it does not sound like the officers did any wrong.”
