This past week was another milestone for the United Way of Freeborn County 2001 Campaign – we reached 88 percent of our goal or $440,000. Again thanks to your generous contributions we continue to get closer to our goal of $500,000.
This in partner with our book distribution to hundreds of children in Freeborn County highlighted the events of last week at the United Way. From Alden and Glenville-Emmons to the Albert Lea School District, young people in kindergarten through second grade received books designated by our increased givers to be distributed to our county’s future adults. Trips were made to St. Theodore’s and the Hollandale Christian School as well. Other presentations will be scheduled soon to preschoolers. Because of the tremendous outpouring of increased gifts and book designators our age-range expanded to include younger children.
It continues to be a thrill to see the excitement of these youngsters as our business people individually present these books in the school classroom. You can feel proud to know you are making a difference in a young person’s life as they take these books home to read aloud or to be read to. I’m confident that Friends Fur-ever will become a cherished treasure for many of these children.
In the meantime it’s only a matter of weeks before the end of 2001 and the start of a new year is celebrated. Let’s make it a time of celebration for the United Way of Freeborn County by wrapping of this year’s campaign with a smile, a cheer and a sense of achievement. Heaven knows it’s been a year unlike any other. Whether you give $1 per week or $100, every dollar counts and every dollar is needed for us to reach our goal. If you haven’t made your contribution, I encourage you to do so.
