The district will levy $3.4 million in 2002, compared to $8.04 million in 2001, a difference of $4.63 million. The cut comes courtesy of the state government, which will take over 100 percent of every school’s general education levy as part of this year’s property-tax reforms approved by the state legislature.

The state also will pay for an excess levy previously approved by voters, which would have cost local taxpayers $559,634.

Most of the remaining local tax levy – nearly $2.75 million – will pay for the bond issue for the high school and facilities projects. The district also levies small amounts locally to pay for reemployment insurance, health and safety, health insurance, community education programs and other expenses.
