WORTHINGTON – You couldn’t help but get the feeling the Albert Lea Tigers would turn up the intensity a notch in the second round of Worthington’s holiday boys’ basketball tournament.

They did.

The Tigers bolted to an 18-2 first-quarter lead and coasted to a 61-34 victory over Martin County West Friday night, taking the consolation title.

&uot;We came out real tough, the kids were ready to play and they were sharp,&uot; said Tigers coach Matt Addington, whose team fell 62-45 to Park Center the previous night. &uot;We played with a tremendous amount of confidence tonight. Overall, it was a real good win for us.&uot;

The Tigers hit 47 percent of their field goals while Martin County West shot 34 percent.

Tyler Young led the Tigers with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Ben Woodside had 14 points and four rebounds. Jay Link contributed nine points, all in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers, 4-4, resume play Thursday with a Big Nine home game against Rochester Mayo, where Addington coached before coming to Albert Lea.
