A gas leak in a downtown Albert Lea business caused the building to be evacuated Monday afternoon.
A 911 call reporting a gas smell at Hallmark Cards and Gifts on South Broadway was made around 2:40 p.m. Firefighters were dispatched and the customers and employees in the shop went outside the building.
According to the Albert Lea Fire Department, there was a small gas leak in the basement. Alliant Energy was called and the technicians shut the gas off. The firefighters pulled out around 3:45.
