AUSTIN &045; When coach Doug Christopherson woke up and looked out the window Monday morning, he figured there was no way his Albert Lea High School boys’ golf team would play in the afternoon.

But the Tigers did. And they were definitely ready.

The ALHS boys improved to 2-0 in Big Nine meets with an 18-hole victory over arch-rival Austin. The Tigers had 310 strokes, the Packers 328 at Austin Country Club.

&uot;I was very, very pleased with our performance,&uot; said Christopherson, whose team won the Northfield Invitational last week.

Adam Boelter led the Tigers Monday, taking medalist honors with a 4-over-par 76.

Following for the Tigers were Dan Breuer, 77; Ryan Thompson, 78; Adam Elseth, 79; Josh Jones, 79; and Josh Tubbs, 83.

The junior varsity also improved to 2-0 with a 329-384 victory. Scoring were Jon Breuer, 80; Matt Tubbs, 81; Matt Bennett, 83; and Ross Stadheim, 85.

&uot;I was particularly proud of our JV coming within one stroke of Austin’s varsity,&uot; said Christopherson. &uot;It means we have some good young talent coming up to challenge the varsity players, and that’s always good for the program.&uot;

The Tigers are back in action today, facing Waseca in an 18-hole nonconference meet at Lakeside Golf Club.
